Playing outdoors, in any kind of weather, Carl and his friends always
found ways to have fun. Carl enjoyed participating in games, both formal
on the field of sport contests, and games made up on the spot out in the
woods. Being outside allowed Carl to expand his imagination, and he learned
to see the world as a place to cherish and nurture.
Carl liked many outdoor activities such as camping,
hiking, climbing, and snorkeling. His preferred method of fishing was
not with hook and line, but with a net while snorkeling. Thought it
was more sporting. Carl enjoyed exploring new campgrounds and had a
knack for making new friends where ever he was.
The morning of his last day, Carl went for a hike
with his father through the Upgaard Wildlife Management Area.
Carl spoke at length of his plans to hike the Appalachian Trail after
High School graduation. He stopped to take the picture of the lily pads
shown to the left, commenting “what a good nature shot”.
If we all do little things everyday, to take care
of Mother Nature, everyone can find ways to enjoy the outdoors like
Carl did. The Foundation will sponsor programs that encourage Environmental
Awareness, and that make it easier for everyone to do their bit to preserve
our natural environment.
